Start your first day in Xi'an by exploring the ancient city wall which was built during the Ming Dynasty over 600 years ago. You can choose to cycle or walk along the 14-kilometer wall and enjoy awe-inspiring views of the city. Next, head to the Bell Tower, a historic landmark where you can observe the famous bell that was used as a timekeeper in ancient China. Afterwards, discover the Muslim Quarter, where you can savor authentic street food and visit the incredible Great Mosque, one of the most beautiful, ancient mosques in China.
The Terracotta Warriors and Horses is an absolute must-see during any trip to Xi'an. This archeological site houses over 8,000 life-size sculptures that date back to the third century BC. Once you've explored the main attraction, make your way to Huaqing Hot Springs, where ancient Chinese emperors would go to relax and bathe. Finish off your day with a trip to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, a historically significant Buddhist pagoda constructed in the 7th century.
Spend a day travelling to Huashan Mountain, known for its towering and dramatic cliffs, alongside impressive vistas. You can either trek up, or take a cable car to reach the top of the mountain. Once you've reached the summit, take time to soak in the spectacular scenery before visiting the Taoist temples in the area. For those who crave adventure, try walking along the treacherous plank road that is attached to the cliffs on the mountain.
Begin your fourth day by visiting the Shaanxi History Museum, an impressive institution where you can learn about the rich and diverse history of Shaanxi Province and see artifacts from a multitude of dynasties. Then, make your way to the Tang Paradise, a large entertainment park inspired by the Tang Dynasty. Here, you can explore numerous attractions including a musical fountain show and detailed replicas of buildings from the Tang Dynasty. Cap off your day by experiencing Xi'an's vibrant nightlife scene, found in the South Gate area where street performers, bars, and clubs abound.
On your final day in Xi'an, visit Xianyang Old Town, an intriguing ancient city that is over 2,000 years old. Once here, make sure to examine Emperor Qin's Mausoleum, the final resting place of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, renowned for commissioning the Terracotta Warriors. Then, continue your journey to the Qinling Wildlife Park, where you can view a vast array of native Chinese wildlife, including pandas, snow leopards, and golden monkeys.
With so much to experience, Xi'an is a perfect destination for a five-day cultural, historical and adventurous trip. Don't forget to taste some of the delicious local cuisine on your way!
